If you are like me, you have endured a winter for the ages. The snow, ice, and record low temperatures have made me long for springtime in a way I never thought I would.
There is light at the end of the tunnel, folks. The Masters are only 30 days away. That’s right, the annual golf tournament in Augusta, Georgia, is almost upon us.
Since we have 30 days to countdown, I thought it would be fun to rundown the top 30 Master’s moments from my lifetime. Now, I was born in 1985, which makes for almost 30 years of memories. Hopefully this countdown takes you down memory lane, but more importantly, I hope it gets you pumped for the Master’s.
Let’s get started, shall we?
(Note: I will not being doing this alone. I will have some help from Tap In Golf contributor, Mike Scott. Look for some posts from him, as well.)
Masters Moment #30. Fred Couples in 1992
It seems like Freddy Couples has been around forever. Every Spring we are reminded of his greatness as Couples plays at the Master’s. He plays well for a few rounds before fading on the weekend. This scenario will play out as long as Freddy can still bomb it with his silky smooth swing.
But there is a reason Boom Boom plays the Master’s every year. That reason is his 1992 triumph.
Believe it or not, the 1992 Master’s was Couples’ only major win. He captured the green jacket by shooting three rounds in the 60’s (69, 67, 69) and finishing out with a final round 70.
At the time it seemed like more majors were in Couples' future. He was 32, and had dominated golf for the better part of a year. For whatever reason, it never panned out that way. But majors aside, Couples was one of the most consistent players of the 90’s and his win at the ’92 Master’s makes the case that was one of the best too.no comments
